Dear Zoo Activities

What you’ll need:
- Dear Zoo Activities Printable
- Coloring Pencils/ markers
- Scissors
- Glue
Activity 1: Beginning Sounds

Print and laminate all the cards.
During center time, the children use foam or magnetic letters to place next to the animals to show the beginning sound of each picture.
Activity 2: Movement, Words & Picture Cards

How to use this resource:
Word & Picture Cards:
Print out, laminate and cut the cards. During Morning Meeting, hand out the picture cards and stick the word cards on the board. Children come up to the board to match the picture cards to the correct words.
Movement Cards Games:
1. Divide the class into 2 groups. The two children in the front go to the teacher and the teacher shows them a card. They then must run back and whisper in the first child in their groups ear what the card said. They continue whispering down the line. The last child in the line then has to perform the action. First line to finish earn a point for their team. Continue until all children had a turn to look at the card as well as perform the action.
2. During circle time, ask volunteers to go to the front, look at the card and perform the action. The other children then must guess.
3. Simply show the card to the whole class and let them perform all the actions.
Activity 3: Roll & Draw and Roll & Write

How to use this resource:
Print and laminate the color sheets for re-use or simply copy the black and white sheet if you prefer to send it home with your children.
Print and laminate the ‘Roll and Draw’ information sheet.
Children roll a dice, look at the number it landed on, find the corresponding number on the information sheet and draw the shape next to it in the first block. Continue until all blocks are full.
Activity 4: Animals Sort

How to use this resource:
Print out and copy the activity sheets. Cut out the pictures of the animals and paste them under the correct heading.
Activity 5: Class Book

Print out and copy the activity sheets and the class book cover. Children draw a picture of the animal they are asking for, then complete the writing activity. Assemble the class book, then read back to the class.
Activity 6: Writing Activity

How to use this resource:
Print out and copy the activity sheets. Children complete the writing activity.
Activity 7: Sequencing

Print out and copy the activity sheets. Children cut out the pictures, then paste them in the correct order after reading ‘Dear Zoo’
Activity 8: Bingo

Print and laminate all the cards.
There are two sets. One set has only pictures on and one set only words. Use as differentiation activity. Mix and match and have fun!
