The Weather Themed Activities were perfect for this time of year, Spring Time! The children loved learning about the water cycle, making a windsock, enjoying clouds in jello jars, learning about thunderstorms, completing a weather report book and taking part in the Math and Literacy centers. The Weather Themed Snap & Memory Game Cards is great for developing their word-recognition, memory and fine-motor skills.
Weather Themed Snap & Memory Game Cards
What you need:
- Word & Picture Cards printed out, laminated and cut
- A flat surface
How to use this resource:
Game 1:
Print 2 copies for each sheet. Cut out all the cards and paste on colored paper. Laminate. Put all the cards with the words in the middle of the circle, face up. Hand out the cards with the pictures. Point to the word cards one by one, talking about the beginning and ending sounds. Ask children, who has a picture that begins with the sound /c/ for example. Cloud and Cold starts with /C/. Now what is their ending sounds? /D/. Sound out the words and let the children decide what the word says. The child with the correct card places it on the word card.
Game 2:
Place the word cards face up on one side and the pictures face up on the other side. Read the words and name the pictures as you place them. Now turn all the cards face down. Children take turns picking up a card from each side. If they match, they get to keep the card. If not, they put the cards back in the same place.
Game 3:
Put all the picture cards face up in the center of the circle. Ask children to turn around and close their eyes. Remove one of the cards. The children turn back and open their eyes. The child that names the missing card correctly gets to keep it. Continue until there are only 2 cards left.
