Stick and Stone Activities
What you’ll need:
- Stick and Stone Printable
- Coloring Pencils/ markers
- Scissors
- Glue
- Laminator and laminating sheets
Activity 1: Stick Puppets
Cut out the pictures of the characters and stick plastic straws or skewer sticks on the back. Children use these to re-tell the story.
Activity 2: Sequencing
How to use this resource:
Print out and copy the activity sheets.
Children cut out the pictures of the crayons and paste them in the correct order. The order is as follows: 1 – Both are lonely, 2 – They meet at the playground, 3 – Pinecone makes fun of Stone, 4 – Stick stands up for Stone, 5 – They are Friends, 6 – They explore, 7 – Stick is Windblown, 8 – Stone is alone again, 9 – Stick is stuck, 10 – Stone saves stick, 11 – They are together again
Activity 3: Class Book
How to use this resource:
Print out and copy the class book activity sheets. Hand out the sheets to the children and ask them to draw a picture of their friends and to write about their friends. If they can’t write yet, the teacher can write for them. Assemble into a class book when everyone is done and read back to the class.
Activity 4: Story Elements Accordion Book
How to use this resource:
Print out and copy the activity sheets. Children cut out the pictures of the Characters, Setting, Problem and Solution, and paste these under the correct headings. Then assemble the Accordion Book.
Activity 5: First, then, Next, Last
How to use this resource:
Print out and copy the activity sheets and Stick Puppets. Children complete the First, Then, Next, Last activity, either by writing, or by cutting and pasting. They then draw the pictures.
Activity 6: The Perfect 10 Addition
Print out and copy the activity sheets. Children draw enough Stones next to each Stick to make the perfect 10.
Activity 7: ST- Words Cut-and-Paste
Print out and copy the activity sheets. Children color, then cut out the pictures. They then paste the pictures under the correct heading. Words that begin with st-: Star, Stone, Stick, Stop, Stove, Stamp. Words that don’t begin with st-: Shark, Sunset, Seven, Scissors, Sock, Shell.
