Seasons & Clothes Themed Activities

The Seasons & Clothes Themed Activities were perfect for this time of year, Spring Time! The children loved learning about the clothes we wear and the four seasons, making four seasons trees, measuring clothes, making a class book and taking part in the popsicle sticks and clothes pins STEM challenge.

Seasons & Clothes Themed Circle Time

Every day during Circle Time we do the morning routine, which includes the Calendar and ‘Number, Color, Shape and Letter of the week’. We then read a story, sing a few songs and do a group activity.

On every Monday we change the ‘Classroom Helpers’ Classroom Jobs. Each child has a name card on a popsicle stick, and they get to choose their job of the week.

Seasons & Clothes Themed Circle Time Activities

Activity 1: Weekend News

Every Monday morning each child gets a chance to talk about their weekend and what they did. The children then draw a picture in the ‘weekend news’ journal, and the teacher writes down what they have said.

Activity 2: Word Cards

Show the word cards to the children while they say the words out loud. Sit in a circle and play some music. Give the first word card to the child next to you, they then pass it on to the next child. Hand the second card to the child next to you and let them pass it on. Children continue to pass the cards around the circle. When the music stops, each child must tell the rest which picture they have on their card.

Activity 3: Clothes RElay

Divide the class into two groups. Place different clothing pieces in a line – one for each group (socks, shorts, a t-shirt and a cap). A child from each group stands at the start line. When the teacher says go, they must walk and put on the different clothing pieces. The first child that gets to the end line with all the clothing pieces on wins.

Activity 4: Word Cards Stand Up/ Sit Down Game

Use the same word cards as is Circle Time Activity 2. Ask all the children to stand up in front of you. Hold the cards facing you. Show the children the cards one by one and say what is on the card. If you name the card correctly, the children keep standing. If you name the card wrongly, children sit down as fast as possible. Those who don’t sit down, or are too slow is out. Continue until there is only one child left.

Seasons & Clothes Themed Literacy Activities

Activity 1: What will you wear? Class Book

Click on the image to find the book in the Amazon online store.

A lovely story of a little bear telling us what he wears on a bright and sunny day. The Jesse Bear Printable Class Book is perfect for an engaging extension activity to this book.

Children will practice speaking in front of their classmates, learn clothes and seasons vocabulary and have a great time!

What you need:

  • Jesse Bear Printable Class Book (Click here to download)
  • Coloring pencils or crayons

How to use this resource:

After reading the story, or watching the read-aloud on YouTube here, ask the children one by one what they will wear when it’s hot, cold, windy, snowing or rainy. For example ‘John, what will you wear? What will you wear when it’s snowing?’ Now ask the children to ask their classmates the same question.

Line the children up in alphabetical order according to their names. Explain to them that they are going to ask the friend next to them what they will wear.

The first page of the book has no place to draw a picture. So the teacher will write the first child in the line’s name on this page and ask them ‘(Child’s name), What will you wear? What will you wear when it’s cold?’

Complete the pages by drawing what they will wear, and the teacher writing down the words of what they drew. They can then write the next child in the line’s name to ask the question. When they are done, the teacher can assemble the class book and read it back to the children. They all love seeing their own and their classmates’ pictures.

Players shout “BINGO!” when they get a full line (vertical, horizontal or diagonal) or a full card.
