If you are looking for a fun and hands-on Transportation themed Math activity, you have come to right place! The ‘Hot-Air Balloon Addition’ Math center is great for developing your young learner’s fine motor, addition, counting and number recognition skills.
Hot-air Balloon Addition
In this fun, hands-on activity children will use a dice to add and record the amount of teddy-bear counters that get to fly away in their hot-air balloons.
What you need:
- 20 Paper cups
- Hot air balloon pictures laminated and cut out (staple the bottom of these to the paper cups)
- Pictures of hot-air balloon baskets printed out and glued onto the paper cups
- Teddy Bear Counters
- Addition recording sheets printed out and laminated
- Whiteboard markers
- Dice
How to use this resource:
Ask the children to put the hot-air balloons in order from 1 – 20 against a wall. Hand out addition recording sheets and dice. Children throw the dice and place that amount of teddy bear counters on the first block. Throw the dice again and place that number of teddy bear counters on the second block. Add all the teddy bear counters together and write the final number in the space provided. Then find the hot-air balloon with the same final number, and place the counters inside the cup.
The children that can’t add yet, can fill the hot-air balloon paper cups up with the same number of counters as is on the basket.
