If you are looking for some engaging and hands-on Room On The Broom Activities, you are in luck!

This is one of my favorite children’s story books. I have not come across a child that does not like it yet. The activities in this post will help your little learners develop story sequencing and word recognition skills, identify beginning sounds and with counting and one-on-one correspondence. We hope you love it as much as we do!

ROOM ON THE BROOM ACTIVITIES

Story Sequencing

What you need:

  • Sequencing Activity Sheets
  • Scissors
  • Coloring pencils
  • Glue

How to use this resource:

After reading the story, or watching the read-aloud on YouTube here, talk about the story. Ask about the characters and their personalities and which character appeared first, second, third and last. Ask the children if they can remember what the witch lost first, second, third and last and which character found each of these objects.

Hand out the activity sheets and ask the children to cut out the pictures and paste it onto the sequencing sheet in the correct order. The whole activity should take about 30 minutes.

Beginning Sounds Cut-and-paste

What you need:

  • Beginning Sounds Cut & Paste Activity Sheets

  • Coloring Pencils

How to use this resource:

Write all the children’s names on the board and circle the beginning sounds. Show the children the pictures and ask them to identify the beginning sound of each word. Hand out the activity sheets and ask them to cut out all the pictures and then to paste them onto the correct beginning sound. The whole activity should take between 20 – 30 minutes.

Room on the Broom Bingo & Memory game

Room on the Broom Bingo

What you need:

  • Bingo cards printed out, laminated (to re-use) and cut out
  • Counters (to place on pictures)

How to use this resource:

This game can be played in pairs, a small group or as a whole class. Hand out the Bingo cards and give each child 6 counters. Place the picture cards face down in the center of the circle. Turn over a card, say the word out loud and ask the children to place a counter over the picture on their cards if they have it. The first one that has covered all the pictures shouts Bingo. You can either stop the game here, or continue until everyone had a chance to shout Bingo!
