Mother Bruce Activities

What you’ll need:
- The Little Mouse The Red Ripe Strawberry and The Big Hungry Bear Activities Printable
 - Coloring Pencils/ markers
 - Scissors
 - Glue
 - Laminator and laminating sheets
 
Activity 1: Life Cycle of a Goose Accordion Book

Print out and copy the activity sheets. Children color the pictures of the life cycle of a goose then cut around the outside of the rectangle. Fold into an accordion. Color and cut out the two halves of the goose. Glue the accordion book to the two halves of the goose.
Activity 2: Sequencing

How to use this resource:
Print and copy the activity sheets. Children cut out the pictures and paste them onto the sequencing sheet in the correct order.
Activity 3: Class Book

How to use this resource:
Print out and copy the class book activity sheets. Hand out the sheets to the children and ask them to draw a picture of what they would do if they were Bruce, and then to write about it. If the children can’t write yet, the teacher can write for them.
Activity 4: Vocabulary

How to use this resource:
Print out and laminate the vocabulary cards. Print out and copy the vocabulary activity sheets. Children assemble the vocabulary flip book, then cut out and paste the definitions underneath the correct picture.:
Activity 5: Word Play

How to use this resource:
Print out and copy the activity sheets. After reading ‘Mother Bruce’, children decipher the secret code and find the 9 words in the word search.
Activity 6: Story Elements Flip Book

Print out and copy the activity sheets. Children cut out the different parts, then assemble. After gluiing the pieces together, the children draw the characters (Mother Bruce, goslings, Mother Goose), the setting (Mother Bruce’s house), the problem (Mother Goose left) and the solution (Mother Bruce takes care of the goslings. They then draw or write a sentence about their favorite part.
Activity 7: Recipe Card and Grocery List

Print out and copy the recipe cards and the shopping list. After reading the book, ask the children which dish they would like to make. Once decided on a dish, the teacher finds a recipe on the internet. Children copy the recipe, then make a shopping list of all the ingredients that will be needed. This could turn into an awesome little field trip to the grocery store!
