Miss Nelson is Missing Activities
What you’ll need:
- Miss Nelson is Missing Activities Printable
- Coloring Pencils/ markers
- Scissors
- Glue
- Glitter, Sequins, Feathers etc
- Laminator and laminating sheets
Activity 1: Character Map Flip Book
Children fold along the dark black line, so that the pictures face outwards. Ask the children to cut along the dotted lines. Children color the pictures, draw a picture of their teacher, then use some adjectives to describe the characters and their teacher.
Activity 2: ‘Miss Nelson is Missing!’ Sequencing
How to use this resource:
Print and copy the activity sheets. Children cut out the pictures and paste them onto the sequencing sheet in the correct order.
Activity 3: Class Book
How to use this resource:
Print out and copy the class book activity sheets. Hand out the sheets to the children and ask them to think of ways to be kind to their friends and to their teachers. Children draw pictures of ways to be kind, then write a sentence. If they can’t write yet, the teacher can write it down for them.
Activity 4: Write the Room Literacy Center
How to use this resource:
Laminate ‘Write the Room’ sheets for re-use. Cut out the word cards and laminate. Hide the word cards around the room. Hand out the recording sheets. Children g around the room, find the word cards and write the words net to the correct picture.
Activity 5: Cause & Effect
How to use this resource:
Print out and laminate the ‘What is Cause & Effect?’ poster. Print out, laminate and cut the Cause & Effect cards.
Use the poster and Cause & Effect cards during morning meeting or as a Literacy Center. (Talk about the book and the causes and effects. Hand out the cards and ask the children to find the effect that matches the cause).
Print out and copy the activity sheet. Ask children to work in pairs or groups to complete the activity, by listing some causes and effects from the book.
Activity 6: Missing Teacher Poster
Ask the children draw their teacher, then complete the activity by filling in the information.
Activity 7: Compare & Contrast
Print out and copy activity sheets. Students compare Miss Nelson to Viola Swamp by pasting the correct adjectives in the Venn Diagram. These are as follows: Miss Nelson (sweet, nice, friendly, caring, loving, happy), Viola Swamp (mean, scary, strict, angry, loud), Both (teacher).
Activity 8: ‘My Disguise’ Mask Craft
Print out and copy the mask templates. Ask the children to choose one. Children decorate the masks using coloring pencils, markers, paint, sequins, glitter, feather or with whatever you have on hand 🙂
Activity 9: ‘Miss Nelson is Missing!’ Story Map
Read the story or watch the read-aloud on YouTube. Talk about the characters (Miss Nelson, the children, Viola Swamp, Detective McSmogg), the setting (school), the problem (Viola Swamp) and the solution (find Miss Nelson). Hand out the activity sheets. Children cut the pictures out and paste it in the correct blocks.
Activity 10: Following Directions Coloring Activity
Print and copy the coloring sheets. Hand out to the children. Children color the picture according to the directions.
